The 2.8L Duramax LWN inline-four diesel engine is a powerhouse for mid-size trucks, but its emissions setup is notorious for choking efficiency. The factory EGR system recirculates hot, soot-heavy exhaust back into your intake.
- Over time, this soot combines with oil vapor from the CCV to create a thick, tar-like sludge that restricts the intake valves, clogs your MAP sensor, and triggers persistent trouble codes.

A: Your oil stays clean much longer, but stick to factory intervals,Without black soot recirculating, oil won't turn pitch black immediately after a change. While this drastically extends engine life, we still recommend following standard service schedule.

A: Yes, slightly. Because the EGR cooler no longer uses hot exhaust to preheat the engine coolant, truck will take a few minutes longer to reach full operating temperature on freezing mornings. However, cabin heater will still function perfectly.
