FAQ

Q: Why does an L5P need these plugs after an exhaust upgrade?

A: Removing factory emissions equipment leaves open harness plugs under your truck. This kit caps those ports to keep out water and dirt while completing the CAN Bus circuit for normal module communication.

Q: Will these plugs work on 2020 or newer L5P Duramax models?

A: No. GM redesigned the electrical connectors for 2020+ models, so 2017–2019 plugs will not fit. This 20–23 Can bus plugs features the updated plug profiles and pin configurations required to safely loop your network.

Q: Do I need a custom tune to use these plugs?

A: Yes.While these plugs physically complete the electrical circuits, they are used during emissions equipment modifications. You still need an engine tune to disable the deleted sensor logic in the computer and prevent CELs.

Q: Where exactly under the truck do these four plugs install?

A: Three black plugs cap the connections near the frame rail and transmission area (where the DEF and NOx modules unplugged). The grey plug serves as the terminator, snapping into the main harness connector near the rear chassis.

Plug #4 is tight but worth it

Three plugs are super easy. The fourth one by the firewall on the driver side is a little tight — had to remove the intake tube to reach it. Took an extra 10 minutes. Still totally worth it for a permanent fix.

Survived a Minnesota winter

-25°F cold starts and the connectors didn't crack or get brittle. The seals held up against road salt spray too. If they can handle a Minnesota winter in an engine bay, they can handle anything.

Quality build, not cheap plastic

I was expecting flimsy connectors at this price but these are legit. Glass-reinforced nylon housing with rubber weather seals. They click in firmly and won't vibrate loose. Been running them 3 months in Texas heat, zero issues.

Took 2 weeks for the ECM to fully settle

After installing, the CEL blinked once about 3 days later. Cleared it with my scanner and it hasn't come back since. I think the ECM just needed time to re-learn. 3000 miles later everything is perfect.

These work great on my 2019 but my buddy's 2020 L5P has different plug locations. Hoping TruckTok releases a 2020-2025 version soon. The quality is there, just need more coverage years.

Easy install, great instructions

The instruction sheet has actual color photos showing exactly where each plug goes on the L5P engine. Took me maybe 5 minutes total. Plugs are labeled 1-4 matching the diagram. Can't mess it up.

Early 2017 build needed ECU flash first

FYI — my truck is an early 2017 build (Nov 2016). These didn't work out of the box because my ECU firmware was too old. Had to get a GM dealer to flash the latest firmware first, then they worked fine. Great product once compatible.

No more limp mode

My 2019 was going into reduced power mode randomly after the delete. Super dangerous on the highway. These plugs fixed it permanently. Been a month and a half, haven't seen limp mode once.

Gold-plated terminals — nice touch

I'm an electrical engineer and I appreciate details. These have gold-plated terminals which means zero oxidation over time. The connector body is UL94 V-0 rated nylon. Whoever engineered these actually cares.

If you're tuning a 2017-2019 L5P, do yourself a favor and order these at the same time. You WILL get CAN bus errors without them and troubleshooting that is a nightmare. These just work.

Can you use the Can Bus plug kit without a turner or tuning done to the PCM/ECM

Hi, can plug only replaces NOX and DEF modules. If you still need to delete egr or dpf, you need to tune the truck; otherwise, the truck will display error codes.
