DESCRIPTION

Product Overview

  • The Trucktok Heavy-Duty Transmission Filter provides factory-spec filtration for the high-performance Aisin 6-speed automatic transmissions (Sales Codes DF2 / DF3) found in Ram 3500-5500 trucks. Engineered to handle extreme towing and high-torque loads, this filter maintains the precise hydraulic pressure required for smooth clutch engagement and valve body longevity.
  • Our premium composite media traps micro-contaminants, clutch friction debris, and metallic wear particles before they can cause costly internal damage. Featuring a factory-spec pickup neck, it ensures a tight, leak-free suction fit at the optimal fluid pan depth.

Key Features

  • Features a pleated synthetic-blend media (clearly visible through the suction port) specifically engineered to capture clutch friction materials, fine varnishes, and microscopic metal shavings generated during heavy-duty towing.
  • Designed with a factory-spec pickup neck and height to ensure optimal, consistent fluid draw—preventing aeration (pulling air) from a shallow neck or suction blockage from settled pan debris.
  • The pickup neck is molded to exact OE dimensions to ensure a tight, secure suction fit inside the valve body port. (Note: Reuse your factory sealing O-ring during installation to guarantee a leak-free seal).
  • Built with a rugged, reinforced polymer body that will not collapse, crack, or warp under high-vacuum flow conditions, maintaining oil pressure even during extreme heavy-haul operations.

Replacement Interval

  • Replace every 30,000 miles under normal highway driving, or shorten to every 15,000 miles under frequent heavy towing, commercial hauling, or severe-duty operating conditions.
  • Always inspect your transmission fluid condition during oil changes. If the fluid appears dark, oxidized, or smells burnt, replace both the fluid and filter immediately to protect the costly valve body.

FAQ

Q: How do I know if my Ram has the Aisin or 68RFE transmission?

A: The heavy-duty Aisin 6-speed (Sales Code DF2 for 6.7L Cummins HO; DF3 for 6.4L Hemi) is standard on Ram 3500 High-Output and all 4500/5500 Chassis Cab models. You can easily verify this by checking your vehicle's window sticker, glovebox build sheet, or consulting a dealer with your VIN. If your truck has the standard 68RFE transmission (commonly found on Ram 2500 and standard 3500 models), this filter will not fit—you will need a different filter kit.

Q: Why does the Aisin transmission need a separate filter from the 68RFE?

A: The Aisin (DF2/DF3) and Chrysler 68RFE are entirely different gearboxes designed by different manufacturers. They share no physical dimensions. The Aisin filter features a completely unique housing shape, fluid pickup height, and mounting alignment. Attempting to force the wrong filter into the valve body will cause immediate fluid starvation, air suction under acceleration, and catastrophic internal transmission failure.

Q: What type of transmission fluid should I use with this Aisin filter?

A: Aisin transmissions require Mopar Aisin Warner AW-1 (or high-quality fluids meeting JWS 3309 / Mobil 3309 specifications). DO NOT use standard Mopar ATF+4 or generic multi-vehicle ATF. Using the wrong fluid will alter friction characteristics, causing severe clutch slippage and valve body damage. A standard pan-drop and filter service typically requires approximately 7 to 7.5 quarts of fresh fluid.

Q: What are the symptoms of a clogged Aisin transmission filter?

A: Early warning signs include delayed or harsh engagement when shifting from Park into Drive or Reverse, as the clogged media restricts immediate hydraulic pressure. You may also notice transmission fluid temperatures climbing faster than normal under heavy loads, or a noticeable shudder/hesitation under light throttle at highway speeds, which indicates the torque converter clutch is being starved of fluid.

Q: Since I’m already servicing the transmission, what other maintenance should I consider?

A: The Aisin transmission service runs on its own interval, but if your engine filters are coming due, bundle them into the same wrench session. For 2013-2018 trucks, the Dual Fuel + Oil Kit handles the engine bay in one order. For 2019-2024, the Dual Fuel + Oil Bundle covers the CP4.2 fuel system and oil change together.

Also fits my 2021: same filter on the 68RFE through 2024

2021 Ram 2500. I was not sure if the 68224232AA crossed over to the 2019+ trucks because some listings show a different transmission filter part number for later years. This one fit my 2021 68RFE perfectly. Same thread size, same gasket diameter, same canister height as the Mopar filter that came off. The media appears identical. At the price difference versus the dealer, I will take it.

2016 Ram with 160K miles: CP3 still going strong

2016 Ram 2500. Original CP3 pump at 160K miles. I credit the two-stage fuel filtration and quality filters. This TruckTok set covers both fuel filters plus the oil filter. The 68197867AA catches anything that made it past the frame-rail 68157291AA. The 5083285AA oil filter has kept the oil analysis numbers clean since new. Ram added DEF in 2013 but the filtration requirements did not change. Good filters are still the best defense.

68197867AA: the under-hood fuel filter for 2013-2018

2015 Ram 3500. The 2013-2018 6.7L has this cartridge-style fuel filter under the hood on the driver side. It is the secondary filter after the frame-rail water separator. This TruckTok 68197867AA has the correct height and diameter for the housing. The O-ring seats without pinching and the cap threads on smoothly. I change this with the frame-rail filter at the same time. If you only buy one fuel filter, at least make sure it is this one and not the wrong part.

1st water separator is the 68157291AA — change both or you are wasting your time

2017 Ram 2500. The frame-rail 68157291AA is your primary water separator. If you only change the under-hood 68197867AA, you have a clogged primary sending restricted fuel to the CP4. This TruckTok dual kit covers both. The frame-rail filter has the correct O-ring and the under-hood cartridge drops into the housing perfectly. Fuel pressure at the CP4 inlet is steady at 85 psi. Two filters, one order, done right.

Five-filter mega bundle: everything including cabin air

2018 Ram 2500. This is the complete filter kit: both fuel filters (68197867AA + 68157291AA), oil filter (5083285AA), engine air filter (53034051AB), and cabin air filter (68406048AA). Everything the truck needs in one box. The cabin filter has activated carbon. Dealer service charges $300+ for this filter set. TruckTok price is less than half. I keep a set on the shelf and do a full filter service every 15K miles. One order, all five filters, done for the year.

68224232AA: 68RFE external spin-on filter for 2013-2018

2016 Ram 2500 with the 68RFE. This external spin-on filter is mounted on the passenger side of the transmission. It filters the fluid before it goes through the cooler. If it clogs, your transmission overheats and the torque converter takes the damage. This TruckTok 68224232AA has the correct 20-micron media and anti-drainback valve. Changed at 60K during a pan-drop and the fluid was clean. The 68RFE is a solid transmission if you change the fluid and filters on schedule.

Four-filter bundle: both fuels, oil, and air in one purchase

2013 Ram 3500. This bundle covers the two fuel filters (68197867AA under-hood and 68157291AA frame-rail), the 5083285AA oil filter, and the 53034051AB engine air filter. The air filter seals the 2013 airbox tight. Everything fits like OEM. One order instead of four part numbers. The price versus buying Mopar filters individually at the dealer is easily 40 percent savings. If you maintain a 2013-2018 Ram, this is the smart way to buy.

All three engine filters: both fuel filters plus oil

2014 Ram 3500 dually. This three-filter kit covers both the under-hood and frame-rail fuel filters plus the 5083285AA oil filter. The 2013+ Ram has a two-stage fuel system and this kit means you are not chasing separate part numbers. The under-hood cartridge 68197867AA fits the housing smoothly, the frame-rail 68157291AA seals against the bowl O-ring, and the oil filter has the correct Cummins bypass spec. One box covers the three most critical filters.

2013+ Ram has TWO fuel filters: this kit gives you both

2015 Ram 3500. The 2013+ 6.7L Cummins has a two-stage fuel filtration system: the 68197867AA under-hood filter near the engine and the 68157291AA frame-rail water separator. Most owners change one and forget the other. This TruckTok set gives you both in one box. Both filters use 10-micron Aquabloc synthetic media. The under-hood filter (68197867AA) is a cartridge style, the frame-rail (68157291AA) has the water drain bowl. Change both together every 15K miles.
